Percentage in absolute poverty in Italy*. *Families with a monthly expenditure equal to or lower than the value of the absolute poverty threshold are classified as absolutely poor, i.e., the minimum expenditure necessary to acquire basic necessities and services included in the basket of absolute poverty. This threshold differs in size and composition by age of the family members, geographical location and type of municipality of residence, taking into account differences in purchasing power (Istat, 2009).
